Spot it: Smooth one-piece shell, no hinged panel above the facemask, mask bolted at four points.

01Where it came from

The 2002 Revolution was the first Riddell helmet designed specifically to reduce concussions. The Speed followed in 2008 with a wider shell, a reshaped jaw and better facemask protection.

02How to recognise it

One piece, top to bottom. No cut line above the brow, no hinge at the mask. The surface runs unbroken from crown to jaw, and the mask bolts on at four fixed points.

03Why it dominates a collection

It was the default helmet across the NFL, college and high school football for most of a decade, so nearly every modern throwback, alternate and color-rush look exists on this shell.

04Finishes

Long production meant teams cycled matte, satin, chrome and anodised treatments through it. If a club wore an unusual finish in the 2010s, the Speed is where you will find it.

Every helmet we sell is a collector display piece. None of them is protective equipment and none should be worn for play at any level.
