How it ships
Helmets ship in their own box with the mask supported, because a facemask carries the weight of the shell if a carton is dropped on its front.
Opening it
Open the carton before you sign anything if you can, and photograph the box if the outside looks wrong. Those photographs are what a carrier claim needs, and they are much harder to get after the box is flattened.
Keeping the box
Collectors who move house, sell, or display in rotation keep the original carton. It is the only thing shaped correctly for the helmet.
